An MbPT official said, “ As of now, 342ha is available for commercial exploitation. Of this, only 165ha is immediately available for the revamp.“ MbPT chairman Sanjay Bhatia said, “The consultant will be appointed in two months and we expect the plan to be submitted in a year.“ The official said the concept plan will be prepared for 342ha and a detailed master plan for 165ha.
Bhatia said, “We will not wait for the entire report to be submitted before work begins.We have already decided to set up a marina at Princess Docks, for which the process has begun.“ MbPT has instructed prospective bidders that the aim is to revitalise the seafront.
The consultant will have to developa detailed master plan, investment and marketing strategy and business development plan for developing the land available with the port trust other than the port activity, such as a waterfront site with commercial, residential, business offices, entertainment, retail and hospitality and community development projects.
MbPT wants the consultants to create a landmark site for the city and India, with plazas, shopping arcades, and a pedestrianand bicycle-friendly environment.
An MbPT official said, “It will have environment-friendly measures like zero discharge of effluents and an energyefficient system.“
